This envelope a first flight envelope for the extension to Birmingham flying from Birmingham to Plymouth. It is signed by the pilot E. Dismore and quite unusually the designer of the air label G. Sawyer.
This is an interesting cover. On the webpage ‘Later Airmails’ we go into some details about cachets used on the Newton Abbot acceptance on the 17th and 27th July. Those who have read that section will recognise the handwriting here. All of the cachets have a similar handwriting which may possibly be the handwriting of GWR director, Sir Henry Jackson. We have only seen the cachets previously on Newton Abbot covers. This is the first time I have seen this type of cachet and handwriting before the 17th July. This is sent from Birmingham to Torquay.
